It seems impossible.
Drive a kid to soccer.
Get that project done for the next client.
Finish those emails.
Have you got your exercise in yet?
Pick up some food for later.
So many things.
It seems impossible.
I never prioritized joy in my life. At those lucky moments out with friends, on a holiday, experiencing a new height of accomplishment, maybe it would just arrive. Reserved in our minds and hearts waiting for those *special* times in life, joy gets tucked away and forgotten about. Elusive. Hiding. Questionable (is that really possible?) Secretly longed for.
Growing up in a family serious about work, serious about making ends meet and serious about family obligations, joy was not an experience I witnessed in others. Like many, I was conditioned into believing it was something that might show up if at unexpected moments if one was *lucky*.
Turns out most of that isn’t true at all.
Emotions ‘happen’ to us yes. Emotions can absolutely take us by surprise, yup.
AND you are not a victim of your emotions. You may have been trained to think that you are a passive recipient to your emotions. The reality is that you have much much more control than you’re aware of.
We are humans made up of cycles of learned patterns. The emotions you experience, or that take you by surprise, are a result of established old patterning that has responded to something in the environment which triggered the emotion to flow.
This is the same for sadness, anger, confusion, cynicism, compassion, hopelessness, love or joy.
When you want more Joy, what to do? The 3 step process goes like this.
Clarity. Choice. Creation.
First, get clear. What does Joy even mean to you? When have you ever experienced it? What were you doing? What do you imagine would bring Joy?
Second, you have to choose it. Want it. Make a clear decision that you want to know if it’s possible. You will go for it. You will experiment. You will make the effort.
You will never experience fitness if you haven’t first made a choice that you’re interested. You will never follow through unless the desire and motivation to feel better, have more energy for your life and relationships is strong.
Lastly, you are the only one who can create it. You are the one. You are the creator. Sure you may have the occasional experiences where it *just happens* a few more times in your life, or maybe not. When you get clear, choose firmly and create, you can experience joy every day.
Yes? Not sure?
Try it with me. Show yourself you can.
We need you. We need more joy on this planet. Yours is calling.
With love,
Alexandra
