Finding (or going against) your own rhythm

Published on 16 April 2025 at 18:09

Going against our natural rhythm is automatic.

Most of us have learned to go fight and move against our natural rhythms since childhood.

We learn to hold our breath and stop ourselves from speaking or acting in a way our parents or caregivers didn't like.

We learn to adjust ourselves in our classrooms, in family gatherings or amongst friends.

How do I get it back?

Living by your own rhythm is deeply peaceful. Flowing. Creative.

In the prenatal environment, we attuned to and absorbed the mother’s nervous system patterning completely.  The father’s imprints were also acquired through DNA though months in the womb have the mother’s nervous system impart a stronger influence.

Through the first years we move through early exploration with this prenatal imprinting and consistently adjust ourselves to our parents’ or caregivers rhythms. Under 5 years old, we simply absorb the energy that we are exposed to and adjust.

In energetic form, we become like those around us.  We may express what is hidden in them, copy what we see/hear and hold emotionally what has been absorbed from them.  Even before words, we are able to learn to hide parts that caregivers imply are not okay, they can’t handle or simply do not want to see.

By the time we are young adults, we think that we are an individual.  “I am my own person.”

Yet, this is actually the time to begin!  This is the time to consciously discover oneself.  It is the time to find Who You Are.

Who You Are is not fully discovered without letting go of adopted ideas and beliefs from parents and even ancestors.

This does not mean you may reject values or strengths from your lineage!  Instead it means that you have freed yourself from adopted patterns of thinking, acquired misunderstandings or habitual behaviors.

You make your own choices.  You choose what to keep and you commit to what needs to be release.

Patterns of avoidance, fears or pressures no longer have to dictate behaviors.

Experiences with avoidance, anxieties and pressures offer indication that you are operating outside of your natural rhythm.  Whenever you notice these patterns, it is an awesome first step to freedom!

For instance, when you notice yourself making choices about your thoughts, making a new choice about an old habit or choosing to challenge a familial belief, you know you are firmly on the path to becoming your own person.  This may start in the teen years and will continue throughout life if you choose it.

Moment by moment, day by day and year by year, you engage in the discovery of yourself as you drop ideas from systems, cultures or families and instead honor what your open heart and open mind knows is right for you.

When you know you are stuck with a habit, challenge or idea, you seek support from someone with more experience in those areas than you.  Over and over these few steps are repeated and eventually you have become the True Self.

You honor your uniqueness.

You are aware of your connection to all that is.

There is no better than or less than that remains in you.

Emotions flow and change yet you have no attachment to them.

You are fully responsible for your experiences and your moment to moment choices.

You have birthed yourself.

This is a wonderful concept to be free of all past conditioning and generational beliefs, pressures and traumas.  And…..it takes time to let go of painful early experiences and parents, grandparents and ancestors’ thoughts or pains.   Just as it took many years and lifetimes to acquire strong beliefs, fears, losses and behavioral tendencies, it takes time to release long-held ideas and truly become your own person.

I so often found it hard to be patient through the process.  Spiralling about, learning more about cycles, falling off a path, getting back on,....compassion and patience with myself over and over was necessary.

I pray you have patience and compassion with yourself as you proceed through every step of your process.  For nervous system patterning that is many generations old, it takes a strong spirit to remain dedicated on a path of healing.  Yet there is no greater reward than being Free.

My wishes for all adults and children: (an ongoing practice with myself!)

Honor your rhythm.

Trust your heart as best as you can.

Learn the tricks and gifts of the mind.

Learn how to use your breath.

Seek inspiration.

Receive guidance.

Grow your spirit.

Praying for your ease in each step along the way,

With love,

Alexandra
